Social Prescribing
The Open Trail team are proud to bring green social prescribing services to Burlish Woodland.
Green Social Prescribing is supporting people in engaging in nature-based interventions and activities to improve their mental health.
Being outdoors has been shown to lower stress, blood pressure and heart rate, while increasing mood and improving mental health. Whether you’re walking, running or digging up garden weeds, being outside is increasingly being prescribed by health professionals to improve people’s well-being.
Spending time outside – especially in green spaces
– is one of the fastest ways to boost your health and happiness.
Burlish Woodland will host woodland workshops, activities, get togethers to help support everyone’s mental health. The program is currently in development, but we welcome individuals and groups to contact us to find out more.
Through our woodland management plan not only can we use the woods to support our own health we can support the woodland’s health at the same time.
Every year 1 in 4 people
will experience a mental
health problem of
some kind.
On any given week
in England 1 in 6 adults
will be experiencing a mental health problem.
Nearly half of adults think that they have had a diagnosable mental health condition at some point. (35.2% of men & 51.2% of women)
Even what may be termed ‘mild’ mental illness is associated with increased risk of premature death.
“The point is that it’s so much more than
a walk in nature, it’s about developing a base
for someone to have a sense of belonging
to something and that might be the natural world,
they might not have otherwise been able to access.
So, by prescribing it you’re in some way
giving it value as a worthy thing to engage with.”
